  2. I knocked it out as soon as I got it. I love the format here where we can decide when we do these things, so if we procrastinate it REALLY hurts. It makes me feel ~responsible~

  3. When reading these chapters, I was so floored by the statistics. It makes me so sad how "uncaring" people today are about their societies and what is going on in the world around them.

  4. Tell me about it. I think this class, or at least this book, should be mandatory in at least high school. We need to be more aware that what we know DOES matter and that we really need to take control of our own lives and in order to do that we need to know what is going on. Newspapers are the last thing that should be going out of business because that's a good source of information, I feel the need to subscribe to at least 2 and go to the library and pick up a book.

  5. "People like me are using the Net to bypass the customary providers of television programming, along with the ads they show and the fees they collect. . . . Television is escaping the TV set and the cable box. We no longer watch the tube. We watch, to borrow ex-Senator Ted Stevens’s memorable conceit, a series of tubes."
    --Nick Carr
I really liked this quote. It is so true. So many people rely on the Net for their entertainment now. I don't even have television in my apartment anymore. Everything I watch is always online. It is just so convenient! :)

  6. I really like that chapter 2 starts off with Oprah. I think she is a huge icon for our society especially with her book club. It doesn't surprise me that adults aren't reading literature there are so many other things to do now with the media. people are forgetting about literature.
